BRADFORD on Avon Bowls Club installed a public access defibrillator on Saturday, eight months after a former member died suddenly at the club.
The club, in Culver Close, Pound Lane, obtained a grant from the British Heart Foundation, as well as other donations, in memory of long-time member of the club, Trevor Ward.
Mr Ward’s widow, Alison, and daughter Sarah Cottle and several club members were in attendance for the defibrillator's unveiling.
The club’s ladies' vice captain, Lesley Hunt, of Greenland Mills, Bradford on Avon, was pleased with its installation as well as grateful to the BHF.
“We are very glad it is up and running. We hope we never have to use it but equipment like this is vitally important,” said Mrs Hunt.
“The British Heart Foundation has been great. They have supplied us with training materials as well as a DVD and mannequins for practice. Our club is next to the football and cricket club so they can use it too.”
The club had already planned to install a defibrillator before Mr Ward died, but his untimely death led to the BHF stepping in and speeding up the process of purchasing the lifesaving equipment.
