TWO Bradford on Avon pupils have overcome 140 miles of running across English terrain in seven days, raising more than £1500 in the process.

Tom Hughes, 16, and Henry Buckley, 17, both of St. Laurence School, began at Bristol Temple Meads on October 24, and finished on October 30 at Hyde Park Corner, London.

The feat was completed so that the teenagers can embark on an expedition to Morocco as part of the World Challenge, where they need to raise £1900 each to go, which takes place next summer.

“I really enjoyed it,” said Henry, who battled through a knee injury mid-way through the gruelling event to complete the behemoth challenge. “I didn’t think I would have been able to do it without Tom helping me through.”

“It was very mentally tough and quite a struggle and I had a massive blister that didn’t help but we made it.”

Despite Henry’s praise for his friend in getting him across the line, Tom insisted it was a collective effort to see them home.

“It was definitely down to determination and getting each other to the end, it was certainly a team effort,” said Tom, who planned the daunting run. “It was a big achievement completing it and now I am enjoying a bit of rest.”

The teenagers, who ran for approximately four hours and 30-40km a day traversing the country with ‘massive’ blisters and torrential rain, were supported by friends and family throughout to help them reach their goal.

Tom and Henry will now try to raise the remaining funds through other fundraising events in the coming months.
