A BENCH in memory of a much-loved Bradford on Avon resident has been unveiled in Victory Field by the Lions Club.

Diane Richardson died earlier in the year. For many years the Lions Club in the town visited her at Christmas with a parcel of grocery goods.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, Lions Club president Chris Penny paid tribute to Mrs Richardson, who went to many outings and meals organised by the club for old folk.

He said: “At Diane’s funeral, they collected enough money for the seat. I used to deliver parcels to her and she was a delightful lady. I am sure she would have appreciated the seat.

“Where the seat is on the playing fields is somewhere she would have loved. I know she would have liked to take a walk and have a rest on the bench.”

Victory Field is used for community events during the year put on by the Lions including their family fun day and Easter egg hunt. The bench is made from recycled plastic materials.

Mr Penny added: “The Lions Club are trying to do things as locally as possible and we try to do things which the community will use and appreciate.

“I have been a member of the Lions since it started and we get involved with international and national things. This seat is an example of what we want to do in Bradford on Avon.

“We want people to know that while we have money to spend on the community, it is their money and this is where we are spending it.”
