WITH the wedding industry worth £10bn, a Bradford on Avon bridal boutique took centre stage in a new TV series this week which aimed to find a bride-to-be the wedding dress of her dreams.

All Hail The Veil, shown on E4 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, saw Carina Baverstock Couture go head-to-head with two other bridal businesses to find one lucky bride the dress she has been longing for.

Directors of the business Carina Baverstock and Lucy Hayward-Rodgers were approached by the producers of Say Yes To The Dress two years ago about a potential UK version and filming took place in April last year.

Ms Baverstock said: “Since it has aired my phone and e-mails have gone mad. I think it is a great show and it has a really good flow and pace and I think people are going to get hooked on it.

“I didn’t get too excited at the time because it seemed a bit crazy to me and then they interviewed us over the phone and Skype numerous times. They told us they were looking at three boutiques and I felt like I was on the X Factor with the six chair challenge that I didn’t want to give up. When we got it no one was more surprised than us.”

In the mini-series, produced by Half Yard Productions for Channel 4, the reputations of the bridal experts were put on the line as they competed to win the bride’s business with their contrasting styles and price ranges – from upmarket emporium and fabulous fashionista to budget boutique.

Ms Baverstock, who has won numerous awards for the boutique with Mrs Hayward-Rodgers, said she tried to mirror the treatment they give brides in their Silver Street shop on the show.

“We want to have an intimate relationship with our customers and it is unusual to find the owners on the shop floor but I think that might be the story of our success and it is the personal one-to-one with the brides and the mothers that adds an extra touch,” she added.

“People spend a lot of money on a wedding but the thing people will remember most is the bride’s dress.

“Your wedding dress says everything about who you are and it is the one thing in your life where you can just go for it.”

The pair showcased numerous designers on the TV including Stewart Parvin, Suzanne Neville and Alice Temperley – something which they believe emphasised the talent of British designers.

“I was concerned about the competitiveness but I think it worked out well. The only thing I thought was bad was that it made it seem that our dresses were all near £5,000 when in fact they weren’t,” Ms Baverstock added.

“We like to showcase our British talent and all the dresses are made in England and so I think we are really lucky to have these people.”

All Hail The Veil is available to watch on All4 catch up.
