COMMEMORATIVE coins will be presented to primary school children from Bradford on Avon in celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday on April 21.

The proposal was carried by the town council at their full council meeting on Tuesday and will cost £1,444.28.

The gold coins will be available to the 415 Christchurch Primary School pupils and the 307 Fitzmaurice Primary School pupils in early June.

After schoolchildren were presented with mugs for the Queen’s golden jubilee, now Mayor Allison Craddock and deputy mayor Laurie Brown will present the Tower Mint coins to the primary schools this time round.

At the meeting Cllr Brown said: “This is a fantastic idea and they look wonderful. It is a great way to mark a special event.”

“Not to give children the chance to remember an occasion like this would be wrong. This is a lovely tangible gift for the kids,” said Cllr John Potter.

The 32mm solid gilding medal will be presented in a bespoke royal blue gold embossed card surround in a protective case.
