Mr Joll was delighted with the accolades and also with the work of executive chef Melanie Booth, the free range chicken and leek pie creator.

"We are delighted to get these awards and it is another string to our bow. To enter a vegan and gluten free pie and win which just goes to show that it does not detract from having a great pie," said Mr Joll.

"I am very happy for Melanie and she is thrilled too. This was actually the pie she used when she interviewed for the job.

"This was our first time entering this and we have picked up two awards which is very pleasing. These pies are hugely popular and these awards confirm why.

"Alfie was chuffed to see us pick up the awards. He has invested in this company so it is great to get something back for him as well."

This caps off an eventful few months for the company, which sold a 40 per cent stake to multi-millionaire Alfie Best in January and in March Eat Square won its battle to keep its name after a London-based firm threatened to sue them over using square in their name.

In regards to what the future holds, Eat Square has secured a place on the website 'Not on the high street' in July to showcase their produce as well as trying to hire workers for the kitchen and sales.

"It is an exciting time. Hopefully the website will help to get some good name recognition and we are also looking for a retail outfit later this year so we are continuing to push on," said Mr Joll.
