AN English Civil War society member who dramatically fell off his horse at the Bradford on Avon re-enactment was given the all clear by medical staff.

As the town geared up for the full-scale battle between Parliamentarians and Royalists at 3.15pm on Saturday in Poulton Recreation Field, a Parliamentarian fell of his horse and had to be treated by medical staff for 10 minutes.

After receiving treatment, the soldier, who was slightly winded, was led off the battle field, smiling and waving to the crowd before returning the next day to take part as normal.

Chief event organiser and Bradford on Avon cllr Laurie Brown said: "It was quite a dramatic fall. It looked worse than it actually was but the main thing is that he is ok, he was just a bit winded.

"He fell off his horse within 10 seconds of getting onto the battle field but the medical team were there in seconds. The saddle was not fastened correctly but he is fine, so no harm done which is great news.

"Someone asked me afterwards was that arranged. They thought it was part of the act funnily enough. He was back getting involved the next day and apparently he loved the weekend."
