SCARECROWS of all shapes and sizes were littered across Holt over the Bank Holiday weekend for the village's annual trail.

Close to 1,000 people took part in the trail across Holt, which featured 30 scarecrows themed around heroes and villains in the event's fourth showing.

Members of the public were tasked with identifying the multitude of different designs, including Daleks, Mo Farah, David and Goliath, Robin Hood, Tintin and much more.

The trail, organised by the Village Hall Committee, raised in excess of £700 across the three days and the proceeds will go towards maintaining the village hall.

Christine Tucker, one of the organisers, said: "It was a fantastic success, the best we have done since it began in fact. The creativity on show was incredible.

"The efforts people went to to make this possible was very impressive. The theme gave people a lot of scope to put together some really good designs and they did not disappoint.

"I cannot say which scarecrow was my favourite as there were so many good ones. People were able to guess who they were as they were so accurate.

"The level of detail was brilliant. The village once again really got behind this and for that we are very grateful.

"Last year we sold around 150 trail maps, this year we beat that by more than 100 so we are extremely happy with how it all went."

Now Mrs Tucker and the team are going to enjoy a well earned rest after a long build up to the trail itself.

"It was a real team effort. So many people put in a great shift to make this a big success," she said.

"This year was certainly better than last year and each year it just keeps on growing and growing.

"Everyone seemed to love it and when you get positive feedback it really makes it all so worthwhile."

The scarecrow trail has previously taken place in conjunction with Holt Music Festival, but for the second year in a row it ran as a separate event.
