IN excess of £2,000 was raised from a Bradford on Avon charity cycle ride in memory of a nine-year-old boy who died in 2012.

Nearly 70 riders took part in the fifth edition of George's Marvellous Bike Ride on Sunday in aid of Stepping Stones Specialist Centre, which supports children with special needs.

The fundraiser, ranging from nine miles to 60 miles along Kennet and Avon canal towpaths, was set up to commemorate George Hutchins, who had cerebral palsy.

"It was a huge success, probably the best event we have done so far," said George's mum, Anna, who lives in Ipswich.

"It seemed to flow very well and it was great to have the whole family out. That was the biggest family contingent we have had which made it even more lovely.

"The Boathouse was a great venue to start and finish the event too. It makes me feel very proud that so many people turn up in memory of George to support such a fantastic charity as Stepping Stones."
