A TOUCH of pink was on display at St Laurence School last Friday as 200 pupils took part in their Race for life event which raised over £800.
Last Friday, the feverishly excited pupils lined up on the sports field to take part in the 5km run as part of the national campaign which supports Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
This is the third year that St Lawrence has hosted this event and the cumulative total raised so far from all three is around £2,000.
PSPE teacher and event organiser, Charlotte Bryer, said: “The weather and atmosphere was great. Students took part in the race with smiles on their faces and you could see that they were having fun.
This year has been the best in terms of participation and for the first time we included the local primary schools who raised their own money and took part earlier in the afternoon.
Headteacher Fergus Stewart, who also joined in the race, said: "It was wonderful to see our school community come together for such a great cause. It was a really happy, team – spirited occasion.”
