WESTWOOD came out in force to support the village’s first arts and craft fair over the weekend where artists were able to show off their homemade creations.

From jewellery to paintings, the crafters saw over 400 people walk through the doors of the social club to support the artists who live in and around Westwood.

The fair was organised by professional artist Annette Dineley, along with Jo Meggs who makes silver jewellery, and the pair said the event went better than they could ever had hoped.

Mrs Dineley, who showcased her felting work and some paintings, said: "We did two months of planning and everything went according to plan.

"I must admit I did very well and got a lot of sales and commissions. I had someone come along from another craft show and so I am going to showcase my work there which is great. It went without a hitch and it was such a lovely show.

"It is the first one we have ever held and it was a non-profit making event. We just wanted to show what people can do. What was wonderful is that the village came out and the WI came along and manned the kitchen across both days and baked cakes to sell and without them we couldn't have done it.”

While an exact figure is yet to be confirmed, any money raised at the event through the sale of teas, coffees and cakes will be split between the craft club at Westwood with Iford School and Frome-based Cats in Distress.

Mrs Dineley added: “We really wanted to encourage people to get out with their work so they can see how people react to what they have made. We had a stall there selling wooden bowls and after the first day they had to go home and make more because they sold out.

"A lot of people who showcased their work want to do it again.”
