THE outstanding work of an Alzheimer’s Support’s manager has not gone unnoticed after Grant Newton was named one of the top five dementia care managers in the country.

Mr Newton, of Bradford on Avon, was shortlisted in the National Dementia Care Awards for his work in Mill Street Club in Trowbridge and Sidmouth Street Club in Devizes, which is used by more than 100 people with dementia each week.

The judges were extremely impressed by the 56-year-old's relaxed, person-centred approach, and by his pioneering methods of using therapy dogs in the clubs.

"It was a massive honour to make it this far. It was great for me but also great for our team. I am representing them too," said Mr Newton, who attended the awards ceremony in Brighton on November 3.

Alzheimer’s Support CEO Babs Harris said: “Grant is a talented and empathetic manager who leads and enables a great team of staff and volunteers.

"His clubs are welcoming environments where people experiencing this most challenging of conditions have a hugely enjoyable and stimulating day out."
