FOLLOWING the success of Westwood with Iford’s pupil radio station, the children were given a special invite to have a tour of BBC Wiltshire’s station.

The radio team and their head teacher Ian Rockey made their way to the radio station’s base in Swindon on Monday (November 21). The visit came after the pupils welcomed Emma Coleman to the school and have a look at their operation.

“Our pupils were featured on the Marie Lennon morning show and then we were given a tour around the radio station, it was a fantastic experience for the children as they got to see a professional radio station,” Mr Rockey said.

As well as being shown around the BBC studio, the pupils were also given the chance to ask questions about the station’s broadcasts for a further insight into the professional world of radio.

“The asked some very intelligent questions, they knew all about radio silence, they were just really well behaved. I think they got as much out of it as I did. I am very grateful to BBC Wiltshire for everything they did for the children, they are all very enthusiastic about their radio station and about the visit,” added Mr Rockey.

The fun doesn’t stop there for the Westwood with Iford radio team as they will be welcoming a special guest to their broadcast today (Friday November 25).

“We have got an interview with Marie which is going to be part of the main show. Our listener base is growing constantly too. It is a very special project,” Mr Rockey said.
