A DECLARATION for a carbon neutral Bradford on Avon has now received over 1000 signatures, giving members of Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon something to celebrate.

To mark the end of its 10th anniversary, the climate friendly group received the one thousandth signature on the Carbon Neutral 2050 declaration, adding another name to the group of people who have agreed to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

Trevor Bedeman, the 1,000th person to sign, said: “I was delighted when I found out that I was the 1,000th person to sign up to Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon’s Carbon Neutral by 2050 Declaration. My main reason for signing is concern about pedestrian safety and traffic intimidation in the town.

“My organisation, White Stripe Crossings, is keen to gather as much information as possible to try and help resolve some of the issues around this and I approached CFB for advice and support especially on traffic pollution in order to try and gain a deeper understanding of the situation. I know they will be a good ally in this quest.”

As well as a number of local groups and institutions signing, the town council, local schools, churches and businesses have also added their names to the list.

Nigel Gerdes, chairman of the climate group, said: “The 1000th sign up sends a clear message to all our elected representatives that action now to hold global warming down to 1.5 degrees C is what many Wiltshire voters what to see done at the local, national and international level.

“The latest science confirms the need for carbon neutrality is a high probability and it is a tribute to those in Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon who chose such a challenging target beyond just carbon reduction, when the Carbon Pledge was launched back in 2009. Wiltshire Council and local area councils could lead on carbon neutrality, the time for token change has run out.”
