RESIDENTS of Bradford on Avon are being invited to add a bit of colour to their community after Downs View was yarn bombed by the locals.

People living near the Downs View green awoke one morning to find the trees colourfully decorated with knitted pompoms. With more and more knitted decorations being added by the day, Holly Taylor of Downs View is hoping more people will join in.

Mrs Taylor, 34, a mother of two, said: “Everyone has been contributing, we have put up a sign asking people to join in. There are pompoms as big as my head there now, it is beautiful. We have little gatherings on the green to use the space we have as sometimes it is overlooked, and this has just made it a more enjoyable place.”

The people who started the yarn bombing, which still remains a mystery, are being praised for making the green a colourful and fun area for the nearby residents.

“The children are loving it, we have people come up to have a look too. Some of the older residents who can’t come out and have a look have said how wonderful it is to see from their homes. We even covered the post box in sequins and yarn, at first we were unsure how people would react but everyone seems to be loving it so we decided to keep adding to it,” added Mrs Taylor.

The yarn bombing is being done just for the community, not raising money for a cause or charity, but just for a bit of fun.

“No one is collecting money for it, it is just for the local community to enjoy. I think everyone should come up here and add a pompom or just have a look round. If you have a green space next to your home then why don’t you start one yourself?” Mrs Taylor said.
