A BRADFORD on Avon dramatics society is preparing to provide food for thought for audiences with its original retelling of The Pied Piper.

The Bradfordians will be taking to the stage in St Margaret’s Hall over the weekend to deliver an insightful and entertaining performance of the classic tale. Written by daughter of the director- Kate Courage, the production of The Pied Piper aims to explore the attitudes towards outsides in a post-Brexit world.

Phil Courage, 69, of Springfields, director of the production, said: “Kate has written the story as a result of Brexit, looking at how people treat outsiders that join their community. We aim to entertain people but also to make them think. I think it has really touched the adult performers.

“We have a cast of 20, as well as remote controlled rats, and we have a three-piece band providing the music for the show, we even have a flautist to do the music for the piper.”

As well as the current performance of The Pied Piper, which will be taking on Thursday and Friday (February 16 and 17) from 6.30pm and Saturday and Sunday (February 18 and 19) at St Margaret’s Hall at 2.30pm, The Bradfordians are also celebrating being nominated for an award.

“We have been nominated in the NODA awards for the best drama production for our performance of The Elephant Man and we have also been nominated for the Wilfred Roe Trophy for stage décor with our consistently high quality and innovative sets. It is great to be nominated but we are only as good as our next performance, we are all very pleased,” added Mr Courage.

Not long after the production of The Pied Piper finishes, Mr Courage will be on the hunt for people to take part in The Bradfordians next performance in the summer.

“We are going to be holding auditions for our summer performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Tithe Barn. There will be auditions at the Mount Pleasant Club on February 28 at 7.30pm and on March 2, also at 7.30pm,” he said.

Anyone wishing to find out more about the auditions is asked to contact Mr Courage on 01225 864154 or email courages@tiscali.co.uk
