A MOTHER and personal trainer from Bradford on Avon has launched her own training plan for runners.

Kerry Sutton, 47, of Woolley Grange, decided to write the 10-week programme to prepare runners for anything from a five-kilometre run to a full marathon. Ms Sutton, who visited Sierra Leone last May with her daughter Maya, 14, said she believes running isn’t just about beating a personal best but enjoying yourself whilst taking part.

“I am an ultra-runner, I have been on jungle ultras, run on course on the Himalayas and loads of other places. I went to Sierra Leone last year with Maya because I like to go running in places I have always wanted to visit. I did a marathon and Maya did a five-kilometre run. It was an amazing experience. Being able to run through a place I have never been to and experience the different culture was fantastic. They were very good during the marathon, there was iced water on offer and even shaded areas,” Ms Sutton said.

“My daughter isn’t really a seasoned runner but she said she wished she had done the 10k race. We raised £3,000 to help some of the country’s girls get further access into education.”

Ms Sutton, who has been a personal trainer of four years, is now looking for more people to take on her training programme and hopes they can learn to enjoy running long distances and experience the crowd atmosphere when participating.

“I really believe running shouldn’t be about beating a time, it should be about doing the journey and experiencing something. I recently pushed a boy in a wheelchair around the Bath Half and he loved it. He said he had never heard so many people shouting his name before, it was really sweet. The atmosphere is always amazing, you always have people cheering you on,” she added.

“If anyone wants to take part in the programme they can find me on Facebook by searching for Kerry Sutton – Perpetual Motion or even visit my website kerrysutton.co.uk.”
