OUTGOING Wiltshire councillor Rosemary Brown says she has loved every minute of her 18 years serving the people of Bradford on Avon.

The Liberal Democrat councillor has called time on her eight years at Wiltshire Council, where she has been a unitary councillor for the town, and will not seek re-election in next month's local election.

The decision, which she made six months ago, brings to an end nearly two decades as a councillor, six of which she spent at the old West Wiltshire District Council and four before that at Bradford on Avon Town Council.

"I have been a councillor for 18 years and I think now the time is right to go. I have loved every minute of it," said Ms Brown, who works at BLB solicitors in Trowbridge.

"It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to serve my community and I am very proud of some of the things I have accomplished over the years.

"For instance getting a crossing at Winsley Road, refurbishing the Bradford on Avon tennis courts, which others had tried and failed to do.

"I have been part of some wonderful projects and met some incredible people over the years. I have put a lot into this and I have got a lot back out of it.

"I would urge people to come forward and serve their community in the future. When you put a lot of work into something and you can see how much it helps people, it is a wonderful feeling. That is why I got into this, to help people."

Ms Brown says she is looking forward to spending some of her extra time in the garden.
