SHOPPERS at local Morrisons supermarkets will soon be able to pick up their very own Bradford on Avon-made Eat Square pie, after owner Alex Joll’s successful pitch to the store chain.

Mr Joll took his pies to a local producer’s event on April 28 where he was joined by other independent traders who all looked to receive support and work in partnership with Morrisons. Judged by members of the WI, all of the products were tested and were given feedback.

“We set up a stall – rather like market stalls – and handed out samples to the guests, local WI members, Morrisons customers and staff. I gave out about 200 samples and people scored Eat Square on their cards. I also got to chat to people as they tried the pies.

"The feedback was good, with the odd constructive comment. Largely people loved our pies and I think we got a lot of 5 out of 5s. There were also quite a few people who knew the business and had had our pies before,” said Mr Joll.

After the testing, Mr Joll then had the chance to chat to the team members from the supermarket to discuss delivery and production options and received advice on how his business would be supported.

“This went well and now they have decided to trial our pies in a few local stores,” added Mr Joll.

“All in all it was a good day. Lots to take away and some great feedback. I also had one lady like the pies so much she went right home and placed an order online.

“So this is a great boost for the business, especially now during our funding. I have learnt a lot and will build the business in such a way as to make us more attractive to such companies in the future.”

EatSquare is currently holding a crowdfunding appeal to raise cash to grow the business.
