RENOWNED slide-guitarist, award-winning banjo player and singer/songwriter, Tony Furtado, is playing a gig at the West Barn in Bradford on Avon later this month.
He is performing in Wiltshire as part of a nine-date tour throughout the UK featuring his recently released CD, Cider House Sessions - Live at Reverend Nat's.
Tony, from Portland, Oregon, USA, is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who manages to mix and match sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef.
Influenced by such musical heroes as Ry Cooder, David Lindley and Taj Mahal, Tony added slide guitar, singing and songwriting to his musical toolbox and began leading his own band.
“For many years I’ve wanted to have an album in my catalogue that has the feel and ease of a show played in my living room with a few friends I love to share tunes and songs with, surrounded by more friends who just want to hear us play and laugh, lights dimmed, and a few 50,000 gallon tanks of cider brewing behind me!”
Joining Tony for the first set of dates (19-24 July) will be Tony’s wife, the acclaimed singer/songwriter Stephanie Schneiderman. With 10 solo releases of her own under her belt and as long-time collaborator with Furtado, she has been described as “hands down one of the most diversely talented artists the US Northwest has to offer.”
For the final three shows (25-28 July) Tony will be joined by Benji Kirkpatrick to perform as a duo. Benji, known for his work with “bloke folk” trio Faustus and with the group Bellowhead is a multi-instrumentalist associated most often with the bouzouki.
However, what he brings through his diverse discography and variety of collaborations through his career is what will make this special duo paring something to see at the West Barn.
