MORE than £2,500 was raised by the annual Winsley Whoop to put towards a range of projects including kitting out new classrooms next year.

The school’s parent/teacher association said over 300 parents, children, friends and relatives attended the event at Winsley CofE Primary School on Saturday, July 8 from 12 noon to 3pm.

Head teacher Rebecca Wilson said she hopes some of the money raised would be put towards kitting out a new double classroom they hope to build next year.

“We normally raise over £2,000 each year and I know that we sold out of most things, so I would expect a similar figure this year.”

Kate Sparrowhawk, chair of the Winsley School Community Association, said the amazing weather had brought out more people this year.

“We had absolutely brilliant weather and many people stayed on a lot longer than we expected. We hope to have raised upwards of £2,500.”

This year’s vintage summer fair featured a children’s entertainer, ‘Mad Pete’, live music from Joe Hunt, races, a tug of war and a raffle draw.

Stalls and activities included a giant inflatable slide, jolly jars, coconut shy, a crockery smash, lucky dip, pocket money stall, guess the name of the teddy, vintage garden games, beat the goalie, washing line, face painting, tombola, stocks, and an inflatable racing track.

There was also a nearly new book stall, raffle prizes, Jo’s Pantry, Neal’s Yard aromatherapy and skincare remedies, afternoon tea and cakes, candy floss, ice creams and a barbecue and bar.
