A BUDDING young writer at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon has been selected as one of the 20 finalists in the Wicked Young Writer Awards for her story, A Tiger’s Tale’.
Year 7 pupil Chloe Keenor, 12, from Holt, wrote her 750-word short story during an after-school club, St Laurence Extra.
Her entry was about endangered tigers in many south east Asian countries that are being hunted close to extinction by poachers for traditional Chinese medicine stores.
Chloe “could not believe” she had made it through to the final 20 in the 11-14 category and said her parents, and classmates were delighted by her achievement.
“They were really proud of me,” said Chloe, who now intends to enter more writing and poetry competitions.
English teacher Lisa White, who ran the competition as a St Laurence after-school club for Key Stage 3 English students, said she was “thrilled” that Chloe was a finalist.
