A BRADFORD on Avon resident has died after being mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while on holiday in Greece.

Reports in Greece announced that the woman who had died was Celia Hollingworth.

She had been missing since Thursday after enjoying a visit to the Mesimvria archaeological site near Petrota Beach, not too far from the Turkish border.

The retired Oxford professor reportedly phoned her family to say that she was being attacked by the stray dogs but it was only on Saturday when the authorities found her body in the mountainous region.

The 62-year-old was a key player in protesting against plans for a 15-metre high mobile phone mast in Bradford on Avon and she also fundraised for Syrian refugees.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are in contact with Greek police in relation to a British woman missing in northern Greece since Thursday.

"We are also providing consular assistance to her family."
