RESIDENTS in Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge and Westbury are being offered free fire safety checks by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The service, called ‘Safe and Well’, involves a home visit from the Safe & Well advisor, Paul Pieri, who will discuss fire safety in the home.

Louise Knox, spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Paul can visit you in your home, at a convenient time, to see what can be done together to make you safer. We can also have a conversation with you around improving your health and well-being.

“Free smoke alarms are fitted where required, and the appointment normally lasts about one hour, covering topics such as; using electricity safely, cooking safely, making an escape plan, what to do if there is a fire, keeping children safe and good practice – night time routine and other points relevant to you.

“He will also identify and discuss any further support you may need if necessary.”

Priority is given to people who live alone, have young families, are over 65, who live on boats or whose home is thatched.
