DEMENTIA Charity, Alzheimer’s Support is calling for people to take part in its annual sponsored walk – and celebrate the Royal Wedding at the same time.

A Walk to Remember, which raises money to support people living with dementia in Wiltshire, will return for its fourth year on Saturday May 19.

Walkers will begin their 12 mile journey in Bradford on Avon, before stopping for lunch at the canal-side Barge Inn at Seend Cleeve. They will celebrate the end of their trek with a Royal Wedding street party in Devizes town centre, joined by Mayor of Devizes, Nigel Carter.

CEO of Alzheimer’s Support, Babs Harris, said: “Our Walk to Remember has raised £65,000 since 2015 to support people living with dementia in Wiltshire. Our target this year is to hit £100,000. Every penny raised on May 19th will go to support our work here in Wiltshire.

“When we realised the Walk clashed with the Royal Wedding we were initially disappointed, but then we decided to throw a party for all the walkers. The Mayor was so enthusiastic that we’ve joined forces to open it up to all comers. We hope that the party will encourage people to walk for us. What better way to celebrate than with a day of charity fundraising ending with a traditional street party?”

7.5 mile and 4.5 mile walks will also take place, with the lunch stop at the Barge Inn acting as start and finish points. Mrs Harris said: “As in previous years there will be shorter routes available so the whole family can take part. Some may prefer to join us at Seend Cleve for the afternoon walk and still enjoy the street party. It is always inspiring to see so many come out and enjoy a day of fun that also goes towards helping so many.”

A Walk to Remember 2018 is sponsored by Alzheimer’s Support’s corporate partner, Apetito.
