BRADFORD on Avon mayor, Cllr David Garwood, has launched this year’s duck race event.

The town council has 1,000 ducks available for people to sponsor in the annual event on Easter Monday, April 2, which starts at noon.

People are being urged to buy a duck to race along the River Avon to raise funds for the Christmas lights.

The ducks will race from the Town Bridge to the finish line under the McKeevor footbridge, where the winners will be retrieved and their sponsors announced.

A town council spokesman said: “Last year we had so many visitors to the town that we sold out of ducks.

“Please keep an eye on our website, social media and noticeboards over the next few weeks to find out how to sponsor yours.

“Of course ducks will also be available to buy from 11am on the day in Westbury Gardens.”

To sponsor a duck, please contact the town council offices on 01225 864240.
