A NEW Women’s 100 group set up in Bradford on Avon is planning a high-profile launch next week.

The Bradford on Avon Women’s 100 – named to celebrate the 100th anniversary of some women winning the right to vote – was formed recently.

The group of politically interested women includes the town’s leading female councillors: Wiltshire Councillor Sarah Gibson, and town councillors Jennie Parker, Emma Franklin and Alex Kay, the deputy mayor.

Now the group is planning a community party on Thursday, March 8, from 6pm to 9pm, at St Margaret’s Hall, Bradford to which all are welcome.

MC for the event, Rosie MacGregor said: “The group has been formed to celebrate and commemorate the 100th anniversary of some women winning the right to vote following the campaign by the Suffragette Movement.

“We have invited other high profile women who live locally to attend the launch, and expect to be joined by Baroness Jane Scott of Bybrook, the Wiltshire Council leader, the Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Rose Troughton and others.”

The former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies and local MP Michelle Donelan have also been invited to attend.

Members have nominated the Trowbridge-based domestic abuse charity Splitz and the international Malala Fund as their chosen charities for any funds they raise.

They are now planning a series of fundraising events and activities that will take place throughout the year.
