4:07pm Wednesday 23rd August 2006 in Bradford By Helen Thomas
AFTER years of waiting, residents in Bradford on Avon finally have the chance to see detailed plans for the Kingston Mill site.
West Wiltshire District Council has received the application from Taylor Woodrow to transform the 5.5acre former rubber works.
Plans include two hotels, a restaurant, wine bar and bistro along with 37 houses, 125 apartments, retail units, offices and 194 extra parking spaces. An exhibition of the plans, together with a model of the proposed development, will be displayed at the Priory Barn in Newtown on Friday and for the next three weekends until September 10.
The exhibition has been organised by the Bradford on Avon District Community Development Trust and the town council.
Gerald Milward-Oliver of the development trust, said he welcomed the plans, which have taken two years to progress from a stakeholder planning workshop, which was led by The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, in 2004.
He said: "We now have three weeks or so to let the district council have our views. We want to encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity. "And if they provide a copy of their views to the town council offices as well, then those views can be taken into account at the public meeting."
At a meeting of Bradford on Avon Town Council's planning committee last night members agreed they would hold the meeting on September 28, for the council to make its formal comments.
The Priory Barn will be open on Friday, and the following two Fridays, from 2-8pm. It is open Saturday and Sundays between 10.30am-4.30pm and it will also be open on Monday from 10.30am-4.30pm.
The town council meeting to discuss the plans will be held in St Margaret's Hall at 7pm on September 28.
