Knitting fundraisers at The Rising Sun making a scarf nearly two miles long in aid of Dorothy House Hospice are still keen to hear from more people who want to get involved.

At the beginning of the year, staff and punters of the pub, in Winsley Road, as well as local knitting groups started a project to make the huge scarf spanning from the Rising Sun to the Winsley hospice.

The scarf, being created as part of the Knit One Help One campaign, is now 220m long and organisers said they are progressing well.

Landlady Liz Northeast said: “There are so many knitting groups, societies and individuals involved in this campaign and we are so grateful to them. We are still more than happy to hear from anyone still wishing to take part and we’d really appreciate more wool donations.”

Mrs Northeast said that once the scarf is completed suitable segments will be sold as scarves to raise money for Dorothy House while donations can still be made to Knit One Help One campaign for the hospice.

Other parts of the scarf will be donated as blankets to animal charities.

Mrs Northeast said: “We think it is important to reuse the parts of the scarf once we’ve finished this project to further support Dorothy House as well as making sure the time that many people have donated can be appreciated in the long term.”

Next month, the Rising Sun will be holding another catch-up meeting for those knitting parts of the giant scarf, to see how long it is.
