Chippenham MP votes in favour of military action in Syria
Chippenham MP Duncan Hames voted with the government to consider military action against the Assad regime in Syria.
Mr Hames said the government’s motion and Labour’s motion would not have themselves sanctioned use of British military force in Syria.
Instead a separate debate and vote would have been required later this month He said: “The defeats for both the Labour party's version of the motion and the Government's reflect the great unease across the country about the situation in Syria.
“This is, of course, at least in part a consequence of the disastrous way Tony Blair as Prime Minister led the country to war in Iraq on what turned out to be a false prospectus.
“I fear that as things stand, Bashar Al-Assad and his regime will be emboldened to continue with impunity to wage war with their horrendous and indiscriminate weapon of choice.”
