Women all over Chippenham are breathing a sigh of relief as their fellas once again become clean-shaven after helping the Movember cause.

Staff and regulars at The Three Crowns pub on The Causeway have spent November getting progressively more hairy, to raise awareness of men's health issues such as prostate and testicular cancers.

They raised over £420 and Phil Townsend was crowned winner of the moustaches on Saturday.

Also among the eight taking part were landlord Steve Jenner and town councillor Rob Jones, plus Dave Johnson who and spent an hour in the bathroom shaving an M into his beard and dying it blue.

Kaz Fletcher, 31, of Calne, was one of the impartial judges.

She said: “I’ve never been in here before and the landlady came over and gave me a Charlie Chaplin tache to wear. It was great fun!”

Over at Faresaver Buses on Bumpers Farm, transport manager David Beard not only raised £60 for Movember but, after growing his moustache all month he dyed it fuchsia pink and collected another £81.

Mr Beard, 50, put his hand in his own pocket to bump it up to £100 which went to the RUH's new cancer centre appeal.

He said: “I looked like a right plonker for the day but it was to help a really worthwhile charity.”
