Chippenham children welcomed in the spring by dancing in the rain on May Day.
Five different primary schools took part in the Maypole dancing event organised by Chippenham Town Council – Charter, Frogwell, Queens Crescent, St Peter’s and Langley Fitzurse.
Bells jingled, ribbons interweaved and the rain pelted down as the kids showed their steps in the Market Place.
Town mayor Sylvia Gibson welcomed the children and Chippenham FM radio played music.
Also performing were Hips and Haws clog Morris dance group from Biddestone, giving a flavour of Chippenham Folk Festival which takes place in the town centre over the second May Bank Holiday weekend.
Langley Fitzurse School will also be dancing at the festival, on Saturday May 24, and were getting in lots of practice on May Day.
After going through their paces in the town centre the seven to nine-year-olds returned to school to perform at their afternoon spring fair – this time in the sunshine.
