Tributes have been paid to Chippenham Town FC stalwart Mike Ballinger.

Club chairman Neil Blackmore said: "It is with much sadness we wish to report the passing of life member and long-time Chippenham Town stalwart Mike Ballinger.

"He was club secretary for many years in the 60s and 70s and a lifetime supporter."

And his son, Tim, said: "I remember him telling me about when his dad took him to matches as a small boy, through to him playing for the Town and later serving for many years on the committee (some of that was during lean times in the Western League in the 60s).

"In more recent years he always listened out for the score and match reports on local radio and read about the Town in the Non-League and Wiltshire Gazette - right up to until the draw with Arlesey Town last week.

"He was also proud that another of the family, Luke Ballinger is playing for the Town.”

His funeral will be at Royal Wootton Bassett Methodist Church on Friday, November 14, at 1.30pm.

The Remembrance Silence before this Saturday's match will also honour Mr Ballinger.
