SPOT fines of £75 could be given to dog owners in a proposed new clampdown on dog fouling in north Wiltshire.
North Wiltshire District councillors will meet next week to discuss plans to introduce a Dog Control Order under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.
Under the new powers, £75 fines would be handed by wardens out to owners of dogs in breach of the order with a reduction to £50 if paid within 14 days. If unpaid, the maximum penalty could be up to £1,000.
The order would include any land within north Wiltshire which is open plus all pavements and verges on roads with a 40mph speed limit or less.
