PUPILS across ten primary and secondary schools in Chippenham have created more than 600 poppies to be placed on the war memorial in Chippenham on Remembrance Sunday.

The pupils have made 685 poppies made into four wreaths, which will be on display in Sainsbury's until Saturday, by Michelle Perry from the store.

Jim Scott, Chippenham Royal British Legion Branch President, said: “We are absolutely delighted with all the poppies the children have made in support of the Poppy Appeal.

"Hundreds of people have stopped and admired the poppy wreaths on display in Sainsbury’s and I would like to thank all the schools and their pupils for their support.”

The Royal British Legion collectors have been in the store since October 24 selling poppies with Sainsbury's also selling a number of poppy products with all profits going to the nation's biggest Armed Forces charity.

Store manager Paul Gunter said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their kind donations and support every year. The Chippenham community, including the schools and their pupils, has been really supportive of the Poppy Appeal."

After Armistice Day, customers can also recycle their poppies in-store.

A recycling collection point will be available at the Customer Service Desk from the November 12 to 24 with all collected poppies going back to The Royal British Legion to either help make new poppies or to generate more funds.
