DETECTIVE chief inspector Jeremy Carter held a press conference this afternoon in light of the murder of a man in Chippenham.
A 22-year-old Chippenham man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man on London Road.
The 38-year-old man was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene this morning at 12.20am.
The road remains shut while forensic teams carriy out an investigation, and the identification of the man has yet to take place.
Det Insp Carter said: “It’s quite clear that they sustained a physical assault but the full detail is the subject of our enquiries and following a post mortem.
“We believe these two people are known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“We also believe there may have been some altercation in another address near the vicinity.
“This is a heavily residential area and people may have heard or seen something going on in the street between 11.30pm-12.30am this morning and if they have got information I would encourage them to contact the police.
“The purpose of our investigation is to build detail by detail what led to this brutal attack and we will be looking at things such as CCTV footage and as you can see from your visit to the scene, forensic teams are carrying out a thorough investigation.”
