A SCHOOL, council offices and more than 100 homes in Chippenham have been affected by problems with the gas supply this week.
Ivy Lane Primary School, in Ivy Lane, has reopened after it was closed for the day yesterday while North Wiltshire District Council announced it would be closing its Monkton Park offices from 11am today, both due to a lack of heating.
Gwyn Thomas, a spokesman for Wales and West Utilities, the gas distribution company for the area, said: “Our investigations found the cause to be a water leak which had penetrated the gas main.
“We successfully restored supplies yesterday afternoon to the majority of properties however around 30 are still affected. Alternative heating and cooking facilities have been offered to these people.
“We are keeping all affected customers informed and are hopeful supplies will be fully reinstated by tomorrow evening.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reassure people that there is no danger to the public.”
The council offices are expected to be open as normal tomorrow.
A meeting of the overview and scrutiny committee will take place this evening as planned.
