A BOYFRIEND who cut off his partner’s hair as she slept has been ordered to go on a domestic violence programme.

Gavin Eyles, 26, of Market Place, Chippenham, used a pair of scissors to hack off 23-year-old Hannah Young’s hair in a fit of jealousy after suspecting she had cheated on him with a woman.

But after hearing that the couple looked like they may get back together a judge imposed a community order.

Philip Warren, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court yesterday that the complainant had been out with a female friend that weekend and the defendant had got it into his head that she had had some sort of association with another woman.

He said matters came to a head on Monday February 11 when the couple agreed to meet at a flat they were renting in Chippenham.

An altercation ensued between them and Eyles claimed Miss Young had come at him with a pair of scissors which were lying on a surface after he had tried to repair a vacuum cleaner.

Mr Warren said Miss Young told police he had attacked her, and during the assault he started hacking at her hair, but she later refused to give evidence against him.

Eyles, however, insisted he waited for her to go to sleep when he used the scissors to cut her hair and she woke to ask what he was doing.

Eyles admitted a charge of actual bodily harm. He denied false imprisonment and a second count of ABH and those counts will lie on file.

Judge Douglas Field imposed a two-year probation order and told him to attend an integrated domestic abuse programme.

When he said 'I going to top her' he must have meant a bit off the top.
