A Chippenham man has been jailed for 14 months following an assault in a Corsham pub.

Matthew Emanuel Robinson, 25, of Marshall Street, has been sentenced for actual bodily harm.

On Saturday, May 19, police attended the Royal Oak Pub in Corsham where a 23 year old man from Chippenham had been assaulted.

Robinson had smashed a glass over the victim's head causing a wound which required medical treatment. Bystanders also needed treatment after being covered in shards of glass.

Robinson was located at an address in Chippenham two hours later and had shaved his hair off in what is believed may have been a deliberate attempt to change his appearance.

He was arrested, charged and pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm at Swindon Crown Court on July 6 where he was jaield for 14 months.

DC Mark Hutchinson said: "This was a particularly nasty attack, the victim was facing away from Robinson at the time and it was extremely fortunate that he did not suffer more serious injuries.

"I would like to thank the members of the public and the management at the venue this assault occurred at for their support.

"I would also like to remind the community that this was an isolated incident and extremely uncommon in the Corsham area.”
