Burnt body found at Sainsbury's store

Police seal off the entrance of the Sainsbury's store this morning Police seal off the entrance of the Sainsbury's store this morning

A burnt body was discovered at the Sainsbury's store in Bath Road, Chippenham, in the early hours of this morning.

The body was burnt beyond recognition and police are now investigating.

Both entrances to the supermarket have been sealed off while police carry out their work, and the store is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

Some traffic chaos was caused this morning as customers tried to enter the store, and people are now being advised to stay away.

In a statement police said: "At approximately 3am this morning a dog handler on a routine patrol discovered a fire in part of the Sainsbury’s car park in Bath Road, Chippenham.

"The fire service attended, extinguished the fire and the area was cordoned off.

"Once the fire was put out, the police discovered a body within the debris.

"It is too early to say whether this incident is suspicious but enquiries continue."

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said the store was shut and everything possible was being done to help police.

Police are asking for anyone who was in the area of the Sainsbury’s car park between midnight and 3am to come forward and speak to them.

Anyone with information should call 101 or, anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police say they are still unsure if the death is suspicious or not, and that they are pursuing all lines of inquiry.

Sector inspector for Chippenham Martin Schorah said: “I can confirm that we are dealing with a badly burned body.

“This was discovered by an officer on foot patrol after we received a call from night guards at Sainsbury’s.”

Jess Dick, who was staying in Taunton Close with her 17-month-old daughter last night, said she was shocked by the discovery.

“This is such a safe and quiet place to live, so it’s really shocking,” she said.

Police have confirmed that the bodt us that of an adult after speculation that it could be missing 12-year-old Tia Sharpe.
Tia was last seen leaving her grandmother's home in New Addington, south-east London, at around midday on Friday after telling relatives she was going to the Whitgift Centre in Croydon town centre.

well it sounds suspicious to me or is it usual in Chippenham to cremate bodies in a supermarket car park in the middle of the night

Of course it will be treated as suspicious - they can't wait a couple of days for the coroner THEN seal off the area as a potential crime scene.
Sad to say, it may not have been suspicious.

old'arry, they qouted me as i walked past the shop earlier and spoke to em to see if i could find out anything as i was yards from the incident last night and they asked to qoute me. i was the only pedestrian that stopped on that side of the car park where the reporters were. If you want them to include you in the articles then go talk to them, they want info after all.

Re Daily mail report, surely there are more covered areas within Sainsburys for a tramp to take shelter?? Under a small tree in the middle of the car park seems an odd place to bed down. R.I.P Whoever you may be.

If that`s what it states in The Mail or similar comics it`s very unlikely to be true !

Is the petrol station even open at 12am and also I have been up there late at night and lived in Chippenham for 12 years I have never once seen a homeless person in the car park SLEEPING. This was a murder undoubtably and I think that even though we will find out who this is we will never find out who did it!!!

There is a guy who sleeps rough all over chippenham - in all sorts of weird places, There's others, too. And there's only one "hostel" in chippenham.

I am appalled by your picture! Why is there any need to show the remains of this pour soul? I didn't realise at first what I was looking at in your picture, which is also shown on The Daily Mail website and no doubt will appear in theirs and your papers tomorrow. I would like to suggest the picture is removed and that you start a fund to raise money for their funeral, at least they can have a dignified and decent send off.

its not as though you can see anything, no different than looking at pics of a car wreck that someone died in.

you can see his actual body in the 2nd picture. So very different than showing a wrecked car once the victim is removed.

I refer you to my original question? How do YOU know it's the body?

Are you working on the case?

Did you see the forensic teams leave with the remains after the photo was taken?

The grim fact is you don't. You're assuming it is because of what you can see via a 480px × 354px photo.

I agree, it seems dragon22 is being offended for the sake of being offended. If that pic really did offend you so much, you've been living a very, very sheltered life.

And 'flavor' is an idiosyncratic twist on the word 'favour', or do you take absolutely everything this seriously?

I know it was the body from the simple fact that it was not removed from the scene until several hours after the photo and article were posted as reported by wiltshire police. As for being offended I said it was insensitive, I work with dead bodies on a daily basis and it doesn't offend me in the slightest. I suppose we have to assume that G&H removed the picture because 480 x 345 isn't high enough quality then and not because of what it showed?

Yes - what truth is that?
Plenty more to come out - is that fact or gossip?

notscot - the Gazette & Herald appears to be the major reporter of news in our county, and Im sure if they choose not to report the rest of this story now, it will come out at the coroners inquest eventually. Some reports on the web appear to have far more factual information than we are seeing here, so dont get confrontational - get informed !

You implied that there was "more to this story" - alluding to friends, newspapers and the web.
I asked you if the info was fact or gossip.
Don't get confrontational, get informed?
Who's being confrontational?
Get Informed? By whom? You? Other Newspapers? Her neighbours (who WERE NOT with her when she died.)
You either know something - or you don't.

I would like to think the Gazette & Herald will soon inform the public, including one very avid user of this website, of the FULL story that is there and available to be published. Maybe AGAIN the agencies do not want the WHOLE truth to come out ?? Yes I do know much more notscot, but I would like to see our local paper and the agencies to be more open and transparent in regard to this matter and others, so as to be of benefit to the public in general. In respect of this matter, my contribution ends.
