The public has spoken and picked the winner of the Pound Arts Open’s People’s Prize category.

Throughout the exhibition at the centre in Pound Pill, Corsham, this autumn, visitors have been voting for their favourite piece in the collection.

Walcot, by Bradford on Avon artist Andrea Cryer received the most votes and took the £150 prize.

She said: “I was a little surprised, but I’m really pleased to have won.

“I think getting the people’s vote is a fantastic accolade, especially when there were so many fine pieces in the exhibition.

“I’d like to say thank you to those who voted for me, as their support is greatly appreciated.”

The Pound Arts Open is now in its fifth year will run until December 19.

At last month’s launch, judges gave their first prize of £500 to Tara Parker-Woolway for her piece, Frisky Chicks. Connie Addison won £250 for second place with Tree Ferns, West Dean and Sally Jeffries won the Corsham Print Prize for Breakfast with Vincent, which is being put on to postcards.

Pound marketing assistant Charity Colborne said: “This year’s event has been really successful, as we had over 200 entries and then it was a very difficult task narrowing them down for the exhibition.”
