Corsham will honour one of its most successful residents next weekend, as five-times Paralympic medallist Stephanie Millward is given the freedom of the town.

Miss Millward, 31, who won four silvers and a bronze in the pool at London 2012, will be awarded the freedom by Corsham Town Council chairman Peter Antsey at a public ceremony outside the Town Hall next Saturday, following a celebration parade along the high street.

The ex-Corsham School pupil will be flanked by primary pupils, who have been preparing a display.

Corsham School head of PE Chris Smith said: “We started a young leaders programme with our Year Nine students in September, as we wanted to encourage our high achievers.

“They have been organising things with the feeder primary schools and practising their displays. We wanted to make sure Steph knows we appreciate all she’s done.”

Miss Millward, who has multiple sclerosis, will lead the parade from the Methuen Arms end of the street to the town hall at 11.30am.
