The campaign to raise much-needed repair funds at Gastard Village Hall received a boost last week, with a £5,000 grant from the Corsham Area Board.

The 77-year-old hall needs more than £15,000 to replace its asbestos-ridden roof, and officials appealed to the board for funding, which approved it unanimously.

Committee treasurer Debbie Anstis said: “We are really pleased to have secured this funding. It’s the first major grant we have received, and it’s good to get it under our belt.

“We’ve still got a lot to do though, we are putting together some fundraising projects for next year, and once Christmas is finished we have got to get things going again.”

The board also approved a £499 grant to the Katherine Park Residents’ Association for a notice board on their play area, and £495 to the Corsham Explorer Scouts for new expedition equipment.
