Members of the Avon Vale Hunt are preparing to meet in Lacock on Thursday for their annual Boxing Day Hunt.

Last year thousands of spectators packed the village to follow the hunt, which was established in 1888 by the 8th Duke of Beaufort.

Joint hunt master Mike Smith said: “It’s all going ahead, we will be meeting outside the Red Lion at 11am as normal.

“Last year was really well-attended; if the weather is like today then maybe it won’t be as popular, but if it’s a nice day we’re expecting a good turnout.

“It’s a tradition for us to go to Lacock now, and it always looks beautiful. We often see people there who come and speak to us every year, and there are many people who only come on Boxing Day.”

He will be joined by Stuart Radbourne, who led the hunt for the first time last year.

The National Trust car park will be open in the village, with parking available for £3 for the day, and Wiltshire Council will be enforcing parking restrictions throughout the day, with four parking enforcement officers patrolling the village to clamp down on any illegal parking.
