THE owner of a shopping precinct in Corsham has submitted plans for a library on the roof.
Bill Hall, whose company runs the Martingate Centre, has lodged a planning application with North Wiltshire District Council for a library on the roof of the shopping complex, served by a lift.
The plan has confused staff at the town's existing library in Pickwick Road. Library supervisor Sharyn Ingram said: "We have had members of the public coming in and asking why there is this application for a new library.
"We don't know anything about it, and we are very confused, to be honest."
Mr Hall said: "The application is purely to see whether permission to build a library there would be granted.
"If it was, then this would be an opportunity for the people of Corsham, and the council, to explore the possibilities of moving the existing library."
