Corsham Cub Scouts took to the water to compete in the annual District Raft Race held in Corsham on Saturday.

The event, on the Corsham Estate, has been running for more than 10 years and 10 teams of six from across north Wiltshire battled to take the lead.

The Cubs were given materials ranging from pine poles to rope and barrels to create a raft within one-and-a-half hours.

They then had to row out into the water on the raft, collect their leader and bring them back to shore in the fastest time.

This year the event was won by 1st Corsham B with a time of one minute 42 seconds. Joint second were 3rd Chippenham and 1st Corsham A with a time of two minutes five seconds.

This was the first time that a pack has successfully defended the trophy so it will stay at 1st Corsham for the next 12 months.

Corsham Cub Scout leader Guy Livingston said: “The atmosphere was great with the warm weather and the fresh air. Everybody was having a great time.

“This event, like all the other district events, is always competitive with one Cub pack wanting to beat another.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Corsham came first and joint second.

“It justifies all the knot work, pioneering lessons and team work we teach during the summer term.”
