HUNDREDS of families have been helped in the past year thanks to the Barnardo’s Children’s Centre in Corsham.

Last year the team in Kings Avenue worked with more than 1,200 parents and children from across the area. The charity says it is going from strength to strength providing free support and advice to local parents and carers of under-fives.

The centre serves not only Corsham but also the neighbouring villages of Box, Colerne, Yatton Keynell, Gastard, Lacock and Kington St Michael.

Activities include parenting programmes, soft play sessions and support with speech and language, plus groups for dads and new mums, as well as links to health services, training and employment. They have also set up a new weekly Mum2Mum breastfeeding peer support group.

Barnardo’s team manager Sarah Nelson said: “We are delighted that we have helped so many families over the last year and we look forward to helping many more in the years to come.

“We have an excellent team and one of the highlights of the year was when our volunteers won the regional Marsh Trust Award for their dedication and commitment.

“Now we hope to continue building on our success and work with local families to give their children the best possible start in life.”

The children’s centre is managed by Barnardo’s on behalf of Wiltshire Council.
