Costcutter retailer Richard Terrell, who runs the store in Kings Avenue, Corsham, is urging the local community to support small businesses in the town on Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is an annual campaign which encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ on the 6th December, highlighting the valuable role small businesses play in their community.

Mr Terrell said: “As a local store we are very grateful for the support we get from the community every day of the year.

"Small Business Saturday is a really neat idea which gives local businesses another platform to showcase ourselves and the products and services we offer.

"Whether people are popping out for some groceries or starting their Christmas shopping I hope they will see what local businesses in the area have to offer and support what is a really important part of the local economy.”

According the Association of Convenience Stores local shops contribute over £37bn to the economy, providing over 386,000 jobs to a diverse range of people in their communities.

Costcutter is part of Costcutter Supermarkets Group who support over 2,500 independent retailers across the United Kingdom.

Daniel Quest, retail director for Costcutter Supermarkets Group, said: “It is really important for people to support their local independent stores who contribute so much to the local community.

"Small businesses are the heartbeat of the community and add a huge amount of value to the local economy, providing a wide range of essential services right on the doorstep.”

According to research by supporter American Express, last year 43 per cent of UK shoppers out shopping on the day had specifically chosen to buy from local independent businesses because of Small Business Saturday, spending an average of £33 and generating £468 million.
