Aprons, saucepans and spoons are at the ready for pupils at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School as they prepare for the live final of a nationwide cooking competition.

After beating hundreds of other recipes from schools all over the country, the school’s dish of Bonfire Night Bangers ‘n’ Beans has been shortlisted for the Sainsbury’s Active Kids Superstar Cooks competition.

Tomorrow Lilli Gibbings, Aisling Massaccesi and Joe Rudland from the school in Corsham will be heading to London to compete against two other primary schools in the cook-off, making their recipe from scratch in front of three judges.

Teaching assistant Teresa Lynch says they pupils have been hard at work preparing: “They are really quite confident, they have been practising cooking at home and at school and the children cooked for the staff and everyone gave good feedback.

“I do think we have pretty good chance. To get this far, we are winners no matter what, they have had an amazing time and it has been a great learning experience.”

The competition challenged pupils to cook the ultimate, great tasting, healthy meal for the chance to win £10,000 of new kitchen kit for their school plus an exclusive dance class with Diversity dance star Ashley Banjo who will be on the judging panel.

Nutritionist for the British Nutrition Foundation, Emma Schneider, and Tara Hewitt, Sainsbury’s Active Kids Campaign Manager, will also be judging the culinary creations.
