Wildlife habitats and seating have been installed at Corsham’s Community Orchard by construction company The Midas Group.

The company, which is working on the Springfield Community Campus, took some time out of building to help refresh the orchard before spring arrives.

The site near Corsham Primary School is the first of a number of community orchard schemes for Wiltshire as part of an initiative between Wiltshire Council, schools and community groups such as Transcoco.

Midas sourced wood from Wiltshire Wood Recycling, a company that diverts wood from landfill and creates jobs for local unemployed people, to create seating areas and build bird boxes and bug shelters in the orchard to support wildlife habitats.

Sophie Ridout, who is deputy head at the school and a member of Transcoco, said: “We are very pleased to have the new benches, bird and bug boxes installed in the Transcoco Community Orchard.

"This will provide opportunities for the children, and the community of Corsham, to learn about birds and wildlife in their community, as well as a place to sit, think, write and paint.”
